Quinney's Bush Camp - New Zealand's Last Great Kiwi Campground?

Quinney's Bush Camp

New Zealand's Last Great Kiwi Campground?

Big claim I know

...but once you've experienced a Quinney's summer, it's hard to think of any other camping ground in New Zealand that can match it. You’re welcome to challenge me to a duel on that one though! ⚔️

The map below helps to paint a picture as to why Quinney’s continues to lure hundreds of families year in, year out. We love that our kids can just jump on their bikes and safely play and explore throughout the day. The camp feels like family. Quinney’s Lake requires adult supervision of course, but every other area is super kid-friendly and well-designed with that magic old school feel. Quinney’s ‘back to basics camping’ claim on their website feels more like covert deterrent to ‘needy/entitled’ guests…

No, you won’t find a TV room, arcade games or CAMP WiFi.

…nor will there be any oat-milk vanilla latte’s available at the camp shop. You’ll need to execute your best negotiating skills with the other 12 people wanting to charge their phone on the 2 free plugs at the kitchen. If you’re a risk-taker, you’ll leave yours on charge in the bathroom while you shower…that’s if Karen remembers to collect her 27inch iPad.

However, you can expect super friendly staff, robust & clean facilities, strict rules & effective policing of noise & behaviour (yes, you may actually get some sleep at this camp) and great vibes. One of the best aspects of Quinney’s are the readily available braziers and on-site firewood. For a small fee, you can fill a trolley or grab an arms load of dry wood for a toasty night around the campfire. On hot days, be sure to sample the real fruit icecreams across the road at Nelson Honey!

Take enough supplies and you actually don’t need to leave.

…but if you do need to restock, Tapawera is only a short drive up the road and always has a well-stocked Four Square. If you feel the need to venture further, Nelson is only a 52km drive.

If you haven’t experienced Quinney’s Bush Camp yet - put it on your bucket list! This place is like going back in time to an age when camping grounds actually wanted children to play. We adore this place, along with generations of other families. Thanks Mark & Marama, you and your team have created a paradise for children to build lifelong memories.
