A Backyard Wedding with Big Feels
Kenzie + Henry
With friends and whānau filling the paddock, it was the kind of day where the people made the magic…
Henry is a Springston local, and Kenzie moved down from the North Island in 2021. They met just a week after she landed in Christchurch - talk about timing! Choosing Henry’s parents’ property as their venue meant the place he grew up became the place they said “I do,” and that sentiment ran through the whole day.
Morning vibes
Kenzie and her bridesmaids - Kobe, Milly, Molly, Sam, and Marissa - settled in at Mays Road. Laughter, playlists, and that calm, excited buzz set the tone with Beth Alice Hairstyling and Kasia Stanicich Makeup working their magic. Over at the family home, Henry and the lads - Sam, Jack, Mitch, Matt, and Cameron - were dialled in early with a cheeky clay bird shoot.
Ceremony under wide-open skies
By 3pm, everyone gathered at the Thorp family home. Celebrant Sarah Henderson led a ceremony that hit the perfect balance: heartfelt, unfussy, and full of grins. There was just enough breeze to ruffle the veils, and just enough happy tears to shine in the photos.
A family feast
Under the Silk Estate marquee, long tables overflowed with family-style food and canapés by the Catering Department. The whole vibe was less “formality” and more “gather round the table, eat, drink, and celebrate together.” Exactly how they imagined it when planning.
Photographer Nick from Curate captured the candid laughs and fleeting moments, while Bourbon Rose delivered blooms that matched the spring-meets-Tuscan vibe. The dress? A stunning Kyha Studios gown - modern, elegant, and all Kenzie.
Reception energy: high
After dinner, speeches landed with the perfect mix of banter and nostalgia and MC George kept the laughs rolling. With guests from all over New Zealand, the reception quickly turned into part party, part sing-along and when live band Danger Baby kicked in, the dance floor lit up from the first track.
If you know these two, you know this: they’re about family, mates, and making moments feel big without making them complicated. Their wedding did exactly that - a day built on good people, great music, plenty of kai, and a whole lot of sunshine.
H&K - thanks for trusting us to tell it your way. This one’s for you…
