Some Love Stories Don’t Start - They Just Grow

Zoe & Chey’s Timaru Wedding

Zoe and Chey’s relationship never really had a dramatic beginning. They met at high school and, instead of a whirlwind romance, their lives simply grew together - shared friends, sport, routines and eventually a home. A decade passed almost quietly, the kind of relationship where nothing ever felt uncertain or forced. Their love wasn’t complicated, it was steady. It just… worked.

The proposal eventually came while travelling through Europe, with Chey asking Zoe to marry him in Greece. A fairly high bar to set for future anniversaries, but a very fitting place for a relationship that had never been rushed. It felt less like the start of something new and more like continuing something that had already been working perfectly well for years.

Their Timaru wedding carried that same feeling. From the beginning the day felt relaxed and genuine — not a performance, not overly formal - just a gathering of people who were all genuinely happy to be there. Many of the guests had watched their story unfold from teenagers into adults, so the atmosphere wasn’t surprise so much as recognition. No one was thinking “wow, I didn’t see that coming.” It was more, “well… obviously.”

The quiet moments between them said the most. Away from everyone else there was no posing or pressure, just two people completely comfortable beside each other. The kind of couple who don’t need instructions on how to act natural because they already are.

What mattered most to Zoe and Chey was always the people around them. The celebration quickly turned into exactly that - laughter, stories, a packed dancefloor and the kind of atmosphere you can’t manufacture no matter how good the playlist is. The speeches, the voices and the unscripted moments became the heart of the day, the parts you don’t realise are important until afterwards.

When they first reached out, they didn’t talk about cinematic shots or dramatic visuals. They talked about story - about hearing those voices again in years to come and remembering how it actually felt to be there. Their film became less a highlight reel and more a record of a life already built together.

Some weddings feel like a beginning.
Theirs felt like a confirmation.
